Rowdy Predicts!

Check out my picks for this year's CMAs

  • Print

The 47th Annual CMA Awards will air live November 6 on ABC. CARRIE UNDERWOOD and BRAD PAISLEY will host the show for the sixth time. Seems like every year, we are asked just WHO will win, so, I thought I’d toss out the earliest of predictions.  Please, no wagering…~Rowdy

ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR

  • Jason Aldean
  • Luke Bryan *If you would have asked me two years ago, I would have bet the farm that Jason Aldean would have been the next ‘young gun’ to take the entertainer trophy. (Even before Blake Shelton)  Then, there was Luke.  All have worked hard, but if Jason gets it, he would undoubtedly be the Dark Horse winner.  My money is on Luther.
  • Blake Shelton
  • George Strait
  • Taylor Swift

FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR

  • Kelly Clarkson
  • Miranda Lambert  *Miranda continues to stay the course, and crank out some killer product.  While others have branhed into other genres, and other arenas in which to ‘expand their bran’ Miranda continues to write record and perform.  The only stepping outside of the lines she does is with rescue dogs and her little shop in Tishomingo.  Many say she should dabble in fashion, talk shows and other things to being light to herself.  I am convinced she will continue to let her music do the talking. After all, that simple approach worked for one George Strait.
  • Kacey Musgraves
  • Taylor Swift
  • Carrie Underwood

MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR

  • Jason Aldean  *Aldean has a shot at this.  Night Train is a great project, and despite a personal hiccup or two this year, he is still getting after it with one of the more energetic, entertaining shows you’ll see.  His sales speak volumes-or millions.  There is much behind the scenec campaigning when it comes to these awards, and Jason being the BIGGEST artist on a SMALL label told me once that he realized the uphill battle he would face if his success continues.  With that being said, he can take this trophy.
  • Luke Bryan
  • Eric Church
  • Blake Shelton
  • Keith Urban

NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR

  • Lee Brice
  • Brett Eldredge
  • Florida Georgia Line *Kacey Musgraves will take a trophy or two, I have no doubt, but when it comes to “breakout” artists, FGL had the formula.  They are a shoe-in, I think.
  • Kacey Musgraves
  • Kip Moore

DUO OF THE YEAR

  • Big & Rich
  • Florida Georgia Line *I think 5 million in sales easily secures them in this somewhat fickle category.  I say that, for over the years it has been combines with the “group” category, depending on the talent pool.  They had the song of the summer, and that can really have impact, due to the time that voting for the CMA’s takes place.  (Which is, uh, NOW.)
  • Sugarland
  • Love and Theft
  • Civil Wars
  • Thompson Square

VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR

  • Eli Young Band
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Little Big Town
  • The Band Perry  *Rivalries* in the Nashville music scene are different than say, two High School football teams.  I always love it when I see people nominates in the same category cheering one another on-even when they lose.  This is THE year for The Band Perry.  Lady Antebellum would likely agree.
  • Zac Brown Band
